Amplifying the impact of the film in Australia & New Zealand

ABOUT THE FILM

UnCharitable presents a radical new way of thinking about giving, confronting the traditional societal perceptions and financial models stifling the ability of charities and not-for-profits to overcome the social and environmental challenges they were created to solve.

Conceived by Dan Pallotta, a social entrepreneur, philanthropist and activist, the film builds on his highly acclaimed book and viral philanthropy TED Talk that introduced this radical thinking, sparking a much-needed conversation about the future of charities and charitable giving. UnCharitable delivers thought-provoking insights packaged to move, persuade and inspire action.

The film provides an in-depth look at the history and evolution of charity, why the current model is failing and what charity could be if we started treating it like a business.

WATCH THE TRAILER

This film is truly unique and a must see for everyone involved in the sector. Front and centre is an issue that's like a hidden secret: not funding operational costs. This pervasive behaviour is holding back our great potential to unleash the smartest minds needed to change lives.

THE AIM

To mobilise decision-makers across the Australian & New Zealand philanthropy and not-for-profit sectors to shift the discourse from overheads as a tool for accountability, to overheads as an investment in impact.

THE OUTCOME

For people to change the way they think about giving, removing the constraints on not-for-profits that undermine their full potential.

”So much of what we believe about the not-for-profit sector is wrong; many charities are getting by on a shoestring. There are CEOs who barely make more than a new grad at a consulting or financial services firm. There are Funders who refuse to let their money go to operations costs, and media that vilifies these costs as ‘overhead’. The most needy in our communities are missing out, because as a society we have, as Dan puts it, ‘confused frugality with morality.’

Watch UnCharitable and be concerned, be saddened, be outraged - and then do something about it…Because charities in Australia can't do better until we all do better.”
