There is growing interest in impact investment in Australia. Despite this, charitable trusts and foundations cite a number of challenges to implementing an impact investment strategy – including a lack of practical know-how to make structural, governance and investment decisions associated with creating an impact investment portfolio.
A practical guide to impact investing is a logical next step to catalyse active participation in the impact investment market and increase the impact of charitable trusts and foundations. Students worked to create a roadmap for charitable trusts and foundations to design, implement and manage an impact investment strategy. Students conducted a review of existing literature on impact investment strategies, implementation and measurement in both the US and Australia; interviewed with local and international industry experts and selected a few Australian or international charitable trusts and foundations as case studies. Students critically analysed the research, interviews and case studies to draft the Impact Investment Field Guide.
